Mr. Mike Gardner has been the Waugh School District Superintendent since July 2019. Before coming to Waugh, Mike served as the Executive Director of Student Services with San Rafael City Schools for three years. In that role, he oversaw all special education programs and services in the district, counseling services, and 504 planning. He was also responsible for overseeing anti-bias/anti-bullying efforts, student discipline, attendance, enrollment, and overall health and wellness of students.

Before that assignment, he was the Assistant Director of Student Services with San Rafael City Schools for six years, providing administrative support to special education programs in the elementary grades. His background includes four years of administrative work with the Marin County Office of Education and Timothy Murphy School.

Mr. Gardner is proudest of his work as a special education teacher and has always used creative strategies to support the needs of all students.

Mr. Gardner is married, has two students in Waugh, and lives about a mile from Corona Creek and Meadow. You can see Mr. Gardner and his family walking their dog, Gracie, around the neighborhood often. He grew up and attended schools in Marin County, obtained his Bachelor's degree from UC Davis, earned his special education teaching credential at Dominican University, and a Master's degree from the University of San Francisco. While working in San Rafael, he was the Terra Linda Varsity Wrestling Coach for seven years, leading his team to seven Marin County Athletic League Championships and distinguished academic awards. More recently, Mike co-founded the Petaluma Wrestling Club and is actively involved in coaching area youth.
